Lugano is the largest city in the canton of Ticino, with a population of about 63,000, and the third most important financial center in Switzerland after Geneva and Zurich. However, Lugano is not only a congress, banking and business center, but also the city of parks, flowers and villas.
Here you can enjoy mostly pleasant temperatures, palm trees and olive trees. If you want to take it easy, sit down at a table on a piazza and enjoy the view of the local mountains Monte San Salvatore and Monte Brè. From San Salvatore, a popular hike leads through beautifully situated Carona down to Lake Lugano at Morcote. A beautiful little village, which you should definitely visit.
Italy is only a stone’s throw away and an excursion there – for example to the weekly market on Saturday in Ponte Tresa – is definitely worthwhile.
