Schaffhausen is a city located on the High Rhine. It is the capital of the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen and has 37,000 inhabitants. The city is located in the northernmost corner of Switzerland and thus also on the border with Germany.
The traffic-free old town of Schaffhausen is considered one of the most picturesque in Switzerland. Visible from afar is the city’s landmark, the Munot. The ring-shaped fortress was built between 1564 and 1589. From the battlements you can enjoy a beautiful view.
The popular shipping route on the Rhine from Schaffhausen to Kreuzlingen is almost 50 kilometers long. The stretch to Stein am Rhein, a very beautiful, scenic little town on the banks of the Rhine, is especially beautiful.
