Sion is the capital of the canton of Valais and has about 30,000 inhabitants. It is best known for its two fortresses: the ruins of the 13th century Tourbillon Castle and the Valère Castle complex, which includes a basilica with an organ that is over 500 years old.
Sion is located in the middle of one of the most important wine regions in Switzerland. Especially the white wine from the region, the Fendant, is famous.
Thanks to the large bus station with its countless connections, one can quickly reach the beautiful side valleys of the Valais. Sion is therefore a convenient starting point to discover the Valais summer and winter holiday destinations and the nearby thermal spas. In winter, Sion offers quick access to the nearby ski resorts of Anzère, Crans-Montana, 4 Vallées or Val d’Hérens.
