Solothurn is the capital of the canton of Solothurn in. The city with its nearly 17,000 inhabitants is considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland. The so-called “Ambassadorenstadt” is located on the course of the Aare and is about 30 kilometers from Biel.
The city wall, still preserved in parts, and the beautiful architectural monuments can be admired in the traffic-free old town with its many boutiques and restaurants.
The city has an important cultural offer, including the Solothurn Film or Literature Days. Among other things, one can marvel at one of the largest collections of weapons in Europe in the museum “Altes Zeughaus”.
The nature museum is particularly popular with families. Unique are the 150 million year old fossilized turtles from the quarries of the city.
